Who I am

This is the personal website of Tim Potter, based in the UK. I'm the data controller for anything this site collects. If you want to get in touch about any of this, hello@timpotter.dev is the best way.

What this site collects

If you accept analytics cookies, this site uses Google Analytics 4 to record:

  • Which pages you visit and how long you stay
  • Approximate location (country / city level)
  • Device, browser, screen size and operating system
  • Where you came from (referring website, if any)

Your IP address is processed by Google as part of the analytics flow, but GA4 does not log or retain it. No advertising cookies, no cross-site tracking, no personal data beyond what you choose to send if you email me.

Why

To understand which posts and projects people actually read, so I can write about more of what's useful and less of what isn't. That's the whole reason.

Cookies

When you visit for the first time you'll see a banner asking whether to accept analytics cookies. Until you choose, no analytics cookies are set. If you accept, Google Analytics sets _ga and _ga_* cookies that expire after roughly 13 months.

You can change your choice at any time by clearing this site's cookies and local storage in your browser, which will bring the banner back.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to:

  • Know what data is held about you
  • Request a copy
  • Request correction or deletion
  • Object to processing
  • Withdraw consent at any time

For Google Analytics data, Google is the processor — see Google's privacy policy for how to exercise your rights with them. For anything else, email me.

You can also complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office if you think your data has been mishandled.

Updates

If this notice changes, the date at the top of this page will reflect that. No version history is kept.
